A Stylish Start at Hotel Syracuse

We kicked off the day downtown, with David and Colin getting ready at the historic Hotel Syracuse. They looked incredibly sharp, but my absolute favorite moment of the morning was after they suited up: they took David’s grandmother’s vintage convertible for the ride over to the museum.

We ended up parking the convertible right on the Everson Plaza for some portraits, and it was such an effortlessly cool, nostalgic touch. Standing there against the bold, sculptural lines of the museum, they looked like something straight out of a magazine.

An Intentionally Untraditional Timeline

One of my favorite things about being a Syracuse, NY wedding photographer is seeing couples design a day that truly serves their guests. David and Colin flipped the standard timeline on its head:

Cocktail Hour First: As soon as guests arrived, they were greeted with drinks and time to mingle.

Gallery Access: Everyone got to wander and peruse the museum’s galleries during the afternoon, which gave the whole day such an elevated, art-forward feel.

The Ceremony: Once everyone was relaxed and settled in, they gathered for the ceremony.

Tented Plaza Reception: Afterward, we headed out to the plaza under a gorgeous tent for dinner and dancing.

The whole flow felt so natural. There was zero rush, no awkward waiting around, just a seamless blend of art, conversation, and celebration.

Posh Details & Dramatic Architecture

If you’ve ever walked into the Everson, you know the building itself is a work of art (it was designed by I.M. Pei, after all!). I loved how David and Colin approached the decor. Instead of trying to overpower the space, they let the grand architecture shine. The floral design along the iconic concrete staircase was simple, organic, and ultra-luxurious, it softened the heavy concrete perfectly without taking away from its drama.

As the sun set, everyone moved under the tent on the Everson Plaza. Dining outdoors right in the heart of downtown Syracuse, surrounded by city lights and incredible art, made the whole evening feel so posh yet deeply warm and personal.
